Loudoun is located in the northeastern tip of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Bordered by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and the Potomac River, Loudoun County is an area characterized as having the best of all worlds. A Transportation Hub

Getting around Loudon County is simple. The county is a transportation hub for the Washington, DC metropolitan area and is home to two major airports: Washington Dulles International Airport and Leesburg Executive Airport. The Washington Air Route Traffic Control Center, which the third-busiest air traffic control center in the United States, is also located in Leesburg and is the source of many jobs for the county’s residents.

An extensive system of major highways and the Silver Line of the Washington Metro also help to connect Loudoun County with surrounding counties as well as the ever-important Washington, DC metropolitan area.

A Growing Nexus

Up until the1980s, Loudoun County was predominantly rural. However, after a period of heavy suburbanization throughout the latter part of the 20th Century, the county transformed into a hub for technology and communications services. Today, Loudoun County is a full-fledged service economy and the home to many world headquarters of companies based in internet and communication technologies.

Some of the most important companies that call Loudoun County home are Verizon Business, Telos Corporation, Orbital Sciences Corporation and Paxfire. The region has been able to thrive since the boom of technology companies, thanks in large part to its inclusion in the Dulles Corridor.

The western region of Loudoun County has not strayed too far from its rural roots. The area is known to have a strong presence in the equine industry. Morven Park International Equestrian Center is located, which is located in Leesburg, is one of the largest and most important equestrian centers in the world. The estate and farm hosts several national horse trials and is also a retirement home for the presidentially pardoned turkeys from the National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation.

One of the most important industries in western Loudoun County is wine production. The county is home to at least 22 vineyards, and is becoming a fast-growing authority on wine with its ideal soil conditions, a temperate climate and some of the world’s most renowned experts within reach. Loudoun’s “wine country” is not only a source of profitable economic conditions for the county, but it also provides a steady stream of recreation as home owners and their family and friends can venture out and enjoy a beautiful afternoon among the grapes.
